New Year, Same You
Don't fall into the "New Year, New You" trap. *mention of weight-loss but not in support of it.
Happy New Year Friends!
This time of year, we are bombarded with “New Year, New You” campaigns. These campaigns come in many forms, but one of the most popular is the idea that because the calendar year changed, you must change too, specifically your body. You’ll change your eating habits, you’ll change your workout habits, you’ll finally lose that extra weight…these campaigns monopolize on guilt and the idea that we must fix ourselves after the holidays.
Look, self-improvement is great. Setting intentions and goals is great. It is also great to not tie any of these things to the new year or your self-worth. Just because the calendar year changed does not mean you need to change, and any change you do want to make can be small, realistic and not body focused.
Instead, let’s focus on “New Year, Same You.” “New Year, Same You” supports who you are at your core. The beautiful person that has gotten you this far in life is perfectly capable of continuing to get you where you want to go next. Any goals or intentions you set are made on your own terms, not due to guilt or pressure to “fix” yourself this new year.
In support of “New Year, Same You,” what are reasons you want to work out this year that are not related to weight-loss and guilt? What are the reasons you workout that make you happy? I would love to hear from you.
Up and comings:
Starting Monday, 1/6, there will be few changes to the class schedule. Make sure to check Vagaro!
We received a $5,000 grant from Believe in Me to support a youth program this year. More details to come, but the plan is to launch this program over the summer.
Asher is working on some exciting collaborations and will keep you posted as more develops!
